Cocteau Twins’ Elizabeth Fraser confirmed for Massive Attack’s North American tour (so are Horace Andy & Young Fathers)
Massive Attack have confirmed that, like on their UK and European dates this summer, Cocteau Twins‘ Elizabeth Fraser will officially be a part of the band’s North American fall tour, as will regular collaborators Horace Andy and Young Fathers. We assumed as much — Fraser is married to Massive Attack drummer Damon Reece and has joined them here before — but it’s good to know for sure.
The lineup was confirmed on new posters for Massive Attack’s shows that read: “New show featuring Elizabeth Fraser, Horace Andy, Young Fathers & more.” The “& more” includes longtime touring vocalist Deborah Miller who sings on songs “Unfinished Sympathy,” “Safe From Harm” and more.
As for that new show, the band say, “Our new live show marks the most transgressive leap in the collaboration between 3D x United Visual Artists since 2003. By reverse engineering algorithms to expose content anomalies & recursive feedback loops, we seek to provoke a dialogue on the broken dream of the confident, empowered individual ‘self’, in the context of the global collapse of liberal democracies.” The show also features some visuals from filmmaker Adam Curtis, who they collaborated with on 2019’s spectacular Mezzanine XXI tour, and was created with lowering their carbon footprint as much as possible.
On this tour, Fraser has not only been performing the three songs she sings on on Mezzanine — “Black Milk,” “Group Four” and of course “Teardrop” — but also Tim Buckley’s “Song to the Siren,” whose cover by This Mortal Coil she sang on. You can watch video of Liz singing “Song to the Siren” with Massive Attack, and see some of their dazzling new stage show, below.
The tour kicks off October 17 in Atlanta and then heads to Miami for III Points fest, then they play DC and Boston before wrapping up the tour in NYC for a big show at Forest Hills Stadium on October 24. All dates are listed below.
