Clairo began ‘Charm’ residency at Webster Hall with Frankie Cosmos (night 1 pics, video, setlist)

Clairo joined forces with Leon Michels of El Michels Affair on her new album Charm to add vintage soul vibes to her intimate sound, and she’s now bringing that to life at a run of intimate residency shows. Having wrapped up a stint in Los Angeles earlier this month, she’s now two nights into the NYC portion, which happens over five shows at Webster Hall. We went to the first night on Saturday (9/14), which found the stage set like a cozy, 70s style recording studio. Clairo and her band, which for these shows includes Hayley Briasco, Eddie Burns, Dejon Crockran, Danae Greenfield, and Hailey Niswanger, first sat amongst themselves under dim lights, drinking wine that Clairo poured and talking. After a toast, they took their places and got into the Charm material, also working in older favorites, including “Bags,” “Amoeba,” “4EVER,” “Flaming Hot Cheetos,” and “North.” They saved two Charm tracks, “Sexy to Someone” and “Juna,” for the end of the night, and both got some of the night’s biggest cheers, though the packed house was full of people singing along the whole time to both the new and older songs.

Frankie Cosmos opens the NYC shows, and you can see pictures from Saturday below, along with attendee-taken video from Clairo’s Sunday set, and both nights’ setlists.

Clairo has three more nights at Webster Hall, on Tuesday (9/17), Wednesday (9/18), and Thursday (9/19), and then she begins a tour with Alice Phoebe Lou that runs through November.
