Charli xcx Invites New York Fans to Discuss Songwriting and Creative Process

Is Charli xcx gearing up to reveal her rock summer? The singer announced a very special event for her New York fans in an Instagram post on Tuesday (April 28) in the form of a note scrawled on a piece of paper with the heading: “New York, May 2026 CONVERSATIONS.”

“Would love to talk w you,” the singer scrawled on the note. In the accompanying caption, she added, “i love talking about making things and process and stuff with my friends so if you want to ask me questions about creative process / song writing / anything else that would be cute. wanna hear what you’re making too. would love to talk with you.” A link to her official website directs fans to a sign-up form for the conversation, though specific details regarding the date and location remain under wraps.

After achieving massive success in 2024 with her Brat album—which sparked the cultural phenomenon of “Brat Summer” and solidified her status as a global pop powerhouse—Charli recently revealed a significant shift in her artistic direction. In a conversation with British Vogue earlier this month, the singer confirmed that her upcoming eighth studio album will mark a definitive pivot from dance-pop to straight-up rock.

“For me, it’s fun to flip the form,” Charli explained regarding her move toward electric guitar-forward compositions. “We know there’s gonna be people who are bothered by it, but that’s fine.” During a studio session, she previewed a track featuring strikingly confessional lyrics that underscore this sonic evolution. “I think the dance floor is dead, so now we’re making rock music,” she sings on the work-in-progress track.

Charli emphasized that the genre jump was a necessary evolution to avoid stagnation. “If I’d made another album that felt more dance-leaning, it would have felt really hard, really sad,” she noted. “What’s interesting for me is to bend the possibilities of what my perspective on that could be.”

In addition to the upcoming album, Charli continues to expand her creative portfolio, having recently released a collection of experimental tracks for Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights adaptation in February.
