BTS Makes History at 2026 American Music Awards with Artist of the Year Win
The 2026 American Music Awards, held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on May 25, proved to be a night of shared success rather than a single dominant force. While the ceremony celebrated a wide array of talent, seven different artists emerged as the evening’s leaders, each taking home three trophies: BTS, Bruno Mars, Cardi B, KATSEYE, Sabrina Carpenter, HUNTR/X, and Sombr.
The night was particularly significant for BTS, who claimed the prestigious Artist of the Year award for the second time in their career. Having first won the category in 2021, the K-Pop superstars have now solidified their place in history as one of only four acts to win the award more than once. With this latest victory, the group also secured the title for song of the summer with “Swim” and best male K-Pop artist, bringing their total career AMA count to 14.
Conversely, the evening presented a rare challenge for Taylor Swift. Despite entering the night as the most-nominated artist with eight nods, she did not secure a win in any category. Nevertheless, Swift maintains her standing as the most decorated artist in the history of the American Music Awards, boasting a record 40 wins.
The ceremony also highlighted the rise of new talent. KATSEYE was honored with New Artist of the Year, marking the seventh consecutive year a female act has claimed the title. Meanwhile, HUNTR/X continued their impressive award season run, with their track “Golden” winning Song of the Year, adding to their previous accolades at the Grammys and the Oscars.
The 52nd annual Awards show, hosted by Queen Latifah, underscored the evolving landscape of the music industry, with fan-voted data from Billboard and Luminate reflecting a diverse and globalized listening public. As the industry looks ahead, the night served as a testament to the enduring power of fan engagement and the continued global influence of artists across all genres.
