Adrianne Lenker played 2 Kings Theatre shows (night 2 pics, video, setlists)
After playing an intimate Music Hall of Williamsburg show back in March, Adrianne Lenker returned to Brooklyn for two shows at Kings Theatre this week as she wraps up her tour supporting this year’s excellent Bright Future. Kings is a significantly larger venue than Music Hall, but Adrianne brought the same sort of intimacy to the grand theater that you’d expect from a club show. She and her collaborators Nick Hakim and Josefin Runsteen (both of whom play on Bright Future, too) sat in chairs in the center of the stage under dim lighting for their understated performance. There was no light show, no ornate backdrop or projections, but they didn’t need any of those things to leave numerous people around me on Tuesday night audibly crying from the simple power and sincerity of Adrianne’s songs. She told a story about how she’d arrived late because she was visiting with a baby, saying “I almost missed the show, I was in such a trance.” The same could be said for the sold out crowd during her set.
In addition to her Bright Future material, Tuesday night’s setlist included four tracks from 2020’s songs, one from 2018’s abyskiss, some Big Thief favorites, and “Carry,” a newer song that Adrianne said she was still working on. She switched things up a bit from Monday; see both nights’ setlists, and pictures from Adrianne’s set below.
The tour continues in Atlanta on Thursday (11/21), followed by shows in Durham, DC, and Philly. Opening all dates has been Big Sur singer/songwriter Suzanne Vallie, who has a new album on the way.
