33 New Songs Out Today

So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.

BÔA – “BEAUTIFUL & BROKEN”

’90s UK alt-rock vets Bôa had a surprise resurgence when their 1998 song “Duvet” went viral on TikTok, and now they’re back for a tour and their first album in two decades, Whiplash. Here’s their second new single since reuniting, “Beautiful & Broken.”

BE WELL – “A TAP I CAN’T TURN OFF” & “WITHOUT A COMPASS”

Melodic hardcore supergroup Be Well (whose lineup includes vocalist Brian McTernan of Battery plus members of Darkest Hour, Bane, Fairweather, and more, and who at this point are just a great ban din their own right) are gearing up to open part of Hot Water Music’s tour (including the Brooklyn show on May 11 with Quicksand, Modern Life Is War, and The Ergs!) and all dates of I Am The Avalanche’s 20th anniversary tour (including LI, NJ, and Brooklyn shows), and now they’ve just shared two great new songs.

RAPSODY – “3:AM” (ft. ERYKAH BADU)

The great North Carolina rapper Rapsody has an anticipated Erykah Badu collab on her upcoming album Please Don’t Cry, and that song is here now.

HERIOT – “SIEGE LORD”

Heriot follow “Soul Chasm” with their second new single, as they gear up for their first album for Century Media (details TBA). This one finds them fusing together elements of death metal, metalcore, industrial, and more, and topping it off with futuristic production.

FOREIGN HANDS – “HORROR DOMAIN”

Metalcore band Foreign Hands have shared another taste of their anticipated new LP What’s Left Unsaid, and this is another great one that finds them exploring their more airy, melodic side.

BRYCE DESSNER – “LULLABY FOR JACQUES ET BRUNE”

The National’s Bryce Dessner announced a new classical album, Solos, due out on August 23 via Sony Music Masterworks. First single “Lullaby for Jacques Et Brune” is performed by Katia Labèque.

86TVS (ex-MACCABEES) – “TAMBOURINE”

Earlier this week, former Maccabees vocalist Orlando Weeks announced his new album, and now former Maccabees Hugo and Felix White have announced the self-titled debut album by their band 86TVs. The band’s lineup is rounded out by their bother Will White and drummer Jamie Morrison (Noisettes, Stereophonics), and the album comes out August 2 via Parlophone. On lead single “Tambourine,” 86TVs take us back to the mid 2000s dance-punk era.

SAD13 – “HELL IS ONLY ME”

For Bandcamp Friday, Speedy Ortiz’ Sadie Dupuis shared a previously unheard solo demo recorded in December of 2021, written for Rabbit Rabbit. She’s donating all profit to Gaza evacuation funds.

HIT LIKE A GIRL – “THE DECIDER”

Hit Like A Girl have shared a new mid-tempo indie song called “The Decider,” of which band leader Nicolle Maroulis says: “On the surface this might seem like another break up song, but it really is a song I needed to put out there for me. My life has completely imploded recently, and putting out this story is going to help me move on.”

GARBAGE – LIE TO ME

Garbage’s Record Store Day EP Lie to Me, featuring four previously unreleased tracks, including two new originals, a cover of “Song To The Siren,” and a remix of “Bad Boyfriend,” has arrived on streaming services.

FIREBOY DML – “EVERYDAY”

Afro-pop star Fireboy DML drops his first single of 2024, and it’s a great example of his infectious melodies and African polyrhythms.

THE MARÍAS – “IF ONLY” & “NO ONE NOTICED”

The Marías’ new album Submarine comes out at the end of the month, and they’ve given us two more early tastes with “If Only” a melancholy ballad, and the dreamy “No One Noticed.”

KEVIN ABSTRACT – “TENNESSEE” (ft. LIL NAS X)

At Coachella, Kevin Abstract brought out surprise guest Lil Nas X and the pair debuted the new song “Tennessee.” That song is officially out now, and it’s exactly the kind of appealing rap/pop hybrid you’d expect from a collaboration like this one.

RXKNEPHEW – “MONEY CAN’T REPLACE TIME”

The ridiculously prolific rapper RXKNephew is releasing a new album, Till I’m Dead 2, on May 31 via New Breed Trapper, and here’s one of its 13 songs.

MIRANDA LAMBERT – “WRANGLERS”

Country star Miranda Lambert has shared a new single, “Wranglers,” which is also her first for Republic Records, following multiple albums on RCA Nashville. She calls the song “a tale of a woman taking her power back,” and adds, “I think we can all identify with the character in this song, because we have all had a time in our life that we needed to find a way to find our strength and also get a little revenge on someone that did us wrong or hurt us.”

MAIYA THE DON – “EXPENSIVE” (REMIX ft. FLO MILLI)

Brooklyn rapper Maiya the Don has shared a new version of her song “Expensive,” and this one features a new verse from Flo Milli, who Maiya supported on tour last year.

1349 – “ASH OF AGES”

Ahead of their upcoming tour with Spectral Wound, Antichrist Siege Machine, and Spirit Possession, Norwegian black metal vets 1349 have shared the new song “Ash of Ages.”

KELLEY STOLTZ – “ABOUT TIME”

“About Time” is the second single from Kelley Stoltz’s upcoming album La Fleur and he says it’s a “cautionary tale about hang ups.” There’s a little Go-Betweens in there, as well as some Roxy Music with a dash of Angelo Badalamenti’s Twin Peaks score.

UNIFORM – “GHOSTHOUSE (2024)”

Uniform have shared a newly recorded version of 2016 single “Ghosthouse” for Bandcamp Friday.

RICHARD HAWLEY – “PRISM IN JEANS”

The great Richard Hawley will release his ninth studio album, In This City They Call You Love, on May 31 via BMG. Hawley says he wanted this one “to be multi-coloured in a way…focusing on the voice and what voices can do together. I deliberately only played a handful of guitar solos to keep it focused on voices, the song and space.”

VELOCITY GIRL – INCIDENTALS EP

’90s-era indie rock / shoegazers Velocity Girl reformed last year to play a few shows and have stayed active on social media since. Today, for Bandcamp Friday, they’ve released an EP of unreleased material from the early 2000s.

LA PRIEST – “APPLE”

LA Priest (aka Sam Eastgate, late of Late of the Pier) has dropped a new EP, La Fusion, for Bandcamp Friday. “Apple” was mixed by French touch legend Alan Braxe (1/2 of Stardust).

JUNKIE XL – “DEMENTUS IS GAINING”

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is in theaters May 24 and Junkie XL’s score is out May 17. “Returning to this world to score the odyssey of Furiosa, an epic tale of survival, resilience and revenge has been just as eye-opening and gratifying,” says Junkie XL.

SECT – “NEW LOW”

SECT (members of Cursed, Earth Crisis, Fall Out Boy, etc) have announced their fourth LP, Plagues Upon Plagues, and shared lead single “New Low.” Read more here.

Chicago metal (and more) band Huntsmen have announced a new album, The Dry Land, and shared lead single “In Time, All Things.” Read more here.
