32 New Songs Out Today
So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
SQUID – “FUGUE (BIN SONG)”
UK band Squid start their North American tour next week and ahead of that they’ve shared this new song. was recorded with producer Dan Carey during the sessions for O Monolith and then remixed and edited by Tortoise’s John McEntire.

GRANDADDY – “LONG AS I’M NOT THE ONE”
“While the lyrics arrived early and remained mostly unchanged, I ended up recording two or three other versions of this song and just couldn’t get it right,” notes Grandaddy bandleader Jason Lytle of this song. “Too folky and/or too country was the culprit. Luckily, I hung in there and settled on this rendition. Just enough shine and dirt. Just enough modern and vintage. I’m still confused as to what it is, but that’s pretty normal for me.” Grandaddy’s new album Blu Wav is out February 16.

MARY JANE DUNPHE – “FIX ME” & “SEASONS”
Mary June Dunphe follows her 2023 debut solo album Stage of Love (Pop Wig) with a new Sub Pop single, “Fix Me” b/w “Seasons.” Mary wrote and recorded both of them primarily in her bedroom, and says that “they’re made with what I had lying around; a bass, some chimes, a single maraca, some breaks I had been messing with, and a soft synth.”

BULLION – “RARE” FT. CARLY RAE JEPSEN
London electronic producer and songwriter Nathan Jenkins announced a new album as Bullion, Affection, due out April 26 via Ghostly International. The first single is a collaboration with previous collaborator Carly Rae Jepsen, “Rare.” “I’ve been a fan of Bullion from the first listen,” Carly says. “His music just sends me some place good every time. We started writing together over zoom sessions in lockdown and then met in real life in Toronto, London and LA. When I first reached out to him, I said ‘it would be fun to see how your world of music and mine could play together’ and it’s been one of the coolest discoveries. To be featured on ‘Rare’ is such a sweet start to 2024. And as a fan still, I’m really looking forward to this whole album.”

COLD HART – “2017” (ft. GOTHBOICLIQUE)
GothBoiClique co-founder Cold Hart has announced a new album, Pretty In The Dark, due May 17 via Epitaph. The new single “2017” features GBC and it finds Cold Hart veering into driving, guitar-fueled pop punk territory.

PILLOW QUEENS – “GONE”
Irish band Pillow Queens announced their third album, Name Your Sorrow, due out April 19. New single “Gone” is jagged alt-rock, and the band say it’s “a song that looks into the vapid nature of brief romantic encounters and the hyperbole that can become so monotonous, it makes you jaded.” Lead vocalist, guitarist, and bassist Pamela Connolly adds, “Lines like, ‘I was in your top five things to do’ convey a lack of self-worth that’s tackled throughout the album. It’s a song that showcases a vulnerability that allows for no silver linings–it’s the reality of how someone is feeling in the moment.”

Jangly acoustic guitars and soaring trumpets fuel the latest single off Brooklyn emo band Stay Inside’s upcoming album Ferried Away.

EL PERRO DEL MAR – “BETWEEN YOU AND ME NOTHING”
El Perro del Mar’s new album, Big Anonymous, comes out next month, and the latest single is the haunting, atmospheric “Between You and Me Nothing.”

WORK WIFE – “STRANGERS”
Brooklyn’s Work Wife announced a new EP, Waste Management, due April 12 via Born Losers Records. Lead single “Strangers” is a lovely, swaying ballad that finds the middle ground between indie rock and Americana.

GRACE CUMMINGS – “ON AND ON”
Australian singer-songwriter Grace Cummings announced her third album, Ramona, due out April 5 via ATO Records. The first single is the soaring “On and On.”

MINISTRY – “B.D.E.”
Says Ministry’s Al Jourgensen of the band’s new single, “B.D.E.” (which yes stands for “Big Dick Energy”): “The incel subsect and general misogynistic tendencies in our society are dangerous yet seem to fly under the radar so we figured it’s time to shine a light on it. In true Ministry fashion we battle it with sarcasm.” New album HOPIUMFORTHEMASSES is out March 1.

JADE BIRD – “BURN THE HARD DRIVE” FT. MURA MASA
Jade Bird has shared her first new music of 2024, “Burn The Hard Drive,” which she worked on with Alex Crossan (Mura Masa). ““I listened back to it with Alex and was like, ‘Oh my god this was a premonition of ending my relationship,’” she says.

PREFUSE 73 – “A LORD WITHOUT JEWELS”
Guillermo Scott Herren has announced his new Prefuse 73 album, New Strategies for Modern Crime Vol. 1, which is out March 22 on Lex Records. This is the jazzy first single.

VANISHING TWIN – “LIFE DRUMMER,” “INARSIAN” & “NON GUARDARE”
London’s Vanishing Twin follow up last year’s Afternoon X with this new 7″ that’s out now via the Sub Pop Singles Club. The band say these three tracks explore “new rhythmic worlds where anything can be a drum.”

CHASTITY BELT – “I-90 BRIDGE”
“‘I-90 Bridge’ is the fictionalized account of real times in Seattle,” says Chastity Belt’s Lydia Lund of the band’s new single and video. “When I wrote the chords and melody, the song felt like a classic chastity belt song which deserved classic Chastity Belt lyrics addressing growing pains and self reflection in Seattle. Gretch took an old camcorder out on her bike one recent winter evening to document the summer night ride referred to in the song – capturing flashing headlights and reflective waves.” Chastity Belt’s new album Live Laugh Love is out March 29.

STILL CORNERS – “THE DREAM”
Still Corners drew inspiration from the quote from Shakespeare’s A Midsummer’s Night Dream: “Are you sure that we are awake? It seems to me that yet we sleep, we dream.” New album Dream Talk is out in April.

Michigan band Liquid Mike are back with another hooky chunk of classic ’90s-style alt rock from upcoming album Paul Bunyan Slept Here.

FAT WHITE FAMILY – “BULLET OF DIGNITY”
Fat White Family have announced Forgiveness is Yours, the band’s fourth album and first in five years, which will be out April 26 via Domino. The video for “Bullet of Dignity” is wild stuff.

MELTS – “FIGMENT”
Dublin’s Melts are following up their 2022 debut, Maelstrom, with a new album, Field Theory, that will be out April 12 via Fuzz Club. This is the danceable first single.

FANCLUBWALLET – “BAND LIKE THAT”
Hannah Judge made her new EP as fanclubwallet with a full band this time, and you can read more about the new single “Band Like That” here.

BNNY – “GOOD STUFF”
Chicago artist Jessica Viscius has announced her new album as Bnny, titled One Million Love Songs, that will be out April 5. The first single is “Good Stuff,” which pairs Viscius’ breathy vocals with pretty clouds of guitar and synth.

THE MESSTHETICS & JAMES BRANDON LEWIS – “EMERGENCE”
The Messthetics (Fugazi’s Joe Lally & Brendan Canty + guitarist Anthony Pirog) and frequent collaborator, saxophonist James Brandon Lewis, have announced a self-titled album, which will be out March 15 via Impulse! Records. The video for “Emergence” was directed by Canty.

THE REDS PINKS & PURPLES – “YOUR WORST SONG IS YOUR GREATEST HIT”
San Francisco’s The Reds, Pinks & Purples are keeping on their very prolific track, announcing a new album, Unwishing Well, that will be out April 5 via Slumberland / Tough Love. Glenn Donaldson keeps it gloomy — wouldn’t want it any other way — as you can hear on “Your Worst Song Is Your Greatest Hit.”

PAN AMERICAN & KRAMER – “A MOUNTAIN IS AN ANCESTOR”
Pan American, the ambient project of Mark K. Nelson (Labradford, Anjou), has collaborated with producer and Shimmy-Disc founder Kramer on a new album titled Reverberations of Non-Stop Traffic on Redding Road. It’s out March 22 via Shimmy-Disc, and Kramer says, “I would beg listeners both animal and human to allow these beautiful landscapes I’ve created in collaboration with Mark Nelson to sing and speak and weep for themselves. Please. Forget about words. Just LISTEN.”
