30 New Songs Out Today
So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
SWEET PILL – “ETERNAL”
Sweet Pill have shared the third single off their four-song Starchild EP, and this one finds them going in a cleaner, American Football-esque direction.

ORBITAL, DAVID HOLMES & DJ HELEN FEATURING MIKE GARRY – “TONIGHT IN BELFAST”
UK dance music legends Orbital and David Holmes have teamed up with DJ Helen for this new single featuring legendary Manchester street poet Mike Garry and vintage Orbital track “Belfast.” “I met DJ Helen in 2019 in my capacity as an educationalist.” says Garry. “She told me she thought my poem ‘Tonight’ would sit beautifully over Orbital’s ‘Belfast’. I wasn’t familiar with the track, so she played it to me and I did the poem silently in my head, and she was right – it sat really well.”

THURSTON MOORE – LUMINOUS MIND (FOUR FOR NAROPA)
For Bandcamp Friday, Thurston Moore has released this EP of “Four seven minutes pieces for Naropa (1016-1100) great Indian mahasiddha and master of mahahudra and tantra. He received the mahamudra and tantra lineage teachings from his guru Tilopa and transmitted them to his disciple, Marpa, the Great Translator of Tibet. Teach Peace in 2024!”

BOMBAY BICYCLE CLUB – “WILLOW” (ft. LUCY ROSE)
Bombay Bicycle Club have a new guest-filled Bombay & Friends EP, Fantasies, due February 23 via Mmm Records…/AWAL. It features Rae Morris, Liz Lawrence, and Matilda Mann, as well as frequent collaborator Lucy Rose, who’s on the bouncy indie pop of new single “Willow.”

JT of City Girls tackles a minimal beat on her gripping new single “Sideways.”

CIVEROUS – “LABYRINTH CHARM” (ft. DEREK RYDQUIST)
LA band Civerous have announced a new albujm, Maze Envy, due March 22 via 20 Buck Spin. First single “Labyrinth Charm” is a towering, subgenre-blurring blend of black, death, and doom metal that features Derek Rydquist (The Zenith Passage, ex-The Faceless).

DOGS ON SHADY LANE – “PILE OF PHOTOS”
Brooklyn-via-Providence band Dogs On Shady Lane have announced a new EP, The Knife, due February 23 via Lauren Records, and the first single is the delicate, slowcore-ish “Pile of Photos.”

AJ SUEDE – “HALLOW FRAME”
Seattle rapper AJ Suede will release a self-produced album, Opta Mystic, on February 16. The first single is the laid-back chipmunk soul of “Hallow Frame.”

THE BLESSED MADONNA – “HAPPIER” FT. CLEMENTINE DOUGLAS
The Blessed Madonna follows her November EP Carry Me Higher with her first new music of 2024, “Happier,” which features vocals from Clementine Douglas.

VOLP – “ABCESS” & “RAZOR MIND”
Volp will release their debut LP Vortex on February 6 via Tomb Tree Tapes, and two singles are out now that find them offering up dark, metallica, kinda Converge-y hardcore.

MYLES BULLEN – “ICE CREAM (SO CLOSE)” & “HEARTONFIRE<3>
Myles Bullen will release new LP timetokill on March 1 via Fake Four Inc, and these two singles find him blending rap, emo, and electronic art pop.

LIL YACHTY – “A COLD SUNDAY”
Lil Yachty channels some soul balladry on his latest single.

BKTHERULA – “CRAYON”
Atlanta rapper Bktherula has announced LVL5 P2, due March 8 via Warner. Here’s the catchy, melodic new single “Crayon.” Bktherula will be on tour with PinkPantheress this year.

ULTRAS – “OR ELSE”
Oakland punks Ultras will follow their 2021 self-titled debut LP with another self-titled EP on February 16 via Convulse Records. New single “Or Else” is a filthy ripper.

THE HALO EFFECT – “BECOME SURRENDER”
Swedish melodeath supergroup The Halo Effect (members of Dark Tranuillity and In Flames) are back with a new single that finds them sounding as catchy and evil as you’d hope.

ESBEN WILLEMS (MONOLORD) – “CABARET STREET”
Esben Willems of Monolord (and Slower) will release a solo album, Glowing Darkness, on March 29 via Majestic Mountain Records. Here’s the first single.

SEPTAGE – “Intolerant Spree Of Infesting Forms (Septic Worship)”
Danish gorgrinders have announced their first full-length, Septic Worship, following two EPs and a split with Hyperdontia. It comes out March 29 via Dark Descent, and the filth is in full force on this lead single.

GAZELLE TWIN FEAT. MAXINE PEAKE – “WE WAX” / “WE SHALL NOT WANE”
Gazelle Twin have a new two-song single out for Bandcamp Friday. The songs feature British actress Maxine Peake and were originally commissioned by Somerset House, London, for “The Horror Show Exhibition” which ran from October 2022 – Feb 2023.

EVERYTHING EVERYTHING – “THE END OF THE CONTENDER”
UK group Everything Everything will release Mountainhead on March 1 and they’ve just shared this new single from it.

REVEREND KRISTIN MICHAEL HAYTER – SAVED! THE INDEX
For Bandcamp Day, Reverend Kristin Michael Hayter (fka Lingua Ignota) has shared outtakes from the sessions that produced her 2023 solo debut, SAVED!. “SAVED! at its inception was a compendium of hymns, how far could I go and how many I could record,” she says. “Presented here is a selection of unreleased recorded work from the SAVED! sessions, which Seth and I began referring to as The Index. Featuring works as disparate as ‘A Beautiful Life’ from the Western-themed children’s show ‘Howdy Doody’ to the puritanical English choral piece ‘Abide With Me’ and the Pentecostal ‘Running For My Life’ — as well as field recordings muttered to one’s self on the porch in the rain, the index features a variety of tones and sources arranged with my special unhinged panache. A hymn I found lyrics to but could not find music to,: ‘O Death Where Is Thy Sting,’ left me to compose on my own, as is the case with a few other works here and on SAVED! — Blind Willy Johnson’s ‘I Know His Blood Can Make Me Whole’ does not use his music but recontextualizes his lyrics — draws attention to the complicated history of sacred music, how cultural shifts, oral histories, the advent of recording, systemically forgotten legacies, and appropriation make the origins of so much of this music very difficult to pinpoint; forgotten-ness, a major theme from SAVED!. This index also features, for the glossolalia die-hards out there (a small subsection to be sure) the extended version of the tongues recording that appears on SAVED! in all its feral weirdness, ending with laughter (??) that I could not control. Please enjoy.”

BMX BANDITS – “TIME TO GET AWAY”
Scottish cult indie group BMX Bandits, which at one point included Teenage Fanclub’s Norman Blake, will release new album Dreamers on the Run on April 26 via Tapete. New single “Time To Get Away” is a lovely slice of baroque psych-pop.

SAVAK – “WILL GET FOOLED AGAIN”
Brooklyn band SAVAK have shared a second single from their upcoming album Flavors Of Paradise. “Will Get Fooled Again” was inspired by The Who but not the way you might expect. “The absurd idea put forward by The Who of never getting fooled again is just dumb,” says the band’s Michael Jarowsky. “And arrogant. There’s always a dude who thinks he’s smarter and better than everyone else. Thankfully most people can see through it and recognize the insecurity behind the charade. This song addresses that insecurity. Specifically the vulnerability and precariousness of romantic relationships. We are all imperfect and it’s easy to get lost in our own heads, thinking things will get better. But can they? Ultimately that’s up to us. And truly knowing ourselves is the best bet for moving in that direction.

Seattle groups TV Star and Spiral XP have teamed up for this collaborative EP that should appeal to fans of Madchester psych and Britpop.

MARK MULCAHY – ‘THE TINSLER’ EP (MITSKI, BOYGENIUS COVERS & MORE)
Mark Mulcahy of Miracle Legion and Pete & Pete themesongers Polaris has released a new EP for Bandcamp Friday. It’s titled The Tinsler and features covers of songs by Mitski, boygenius, Faye Webster, Adrianne Lenker, and Laufey. “This little record is some kind of summary tribute to the time spent listening and learning and crying and laughing,” Mark says.

PORNOS FOR PYROS – “LITTLE ME”
Ahead of the start of their reunion-turned-farewell tour later this month, Pornos for Pyros have shared another new single, which you can read more about here.

TANDOORI KNIGHTS (KING KHAN, BLOODSHOT BILL) – “JE ME SOUVIENS”
Tandoori Knights, aka the duo of King Khan and Bloodshot Bill, released their debut album all the way back in 2012 and are finally following that up. Their self-titled second album is out on February 16 via Rad Girlfriends. The first single, “Je Me Souviens,” is like the last decade never happened, a pleasing slab of swaggering low-fi garage rock heard as it should be – in mono.
