2024 Emmy nominations: ‘The Bear,’ ‘Shogun,’ ‘Baby Reindeer,’ Donald Glover, Atticus Ross, Eli Janney, more

The nominations for the 76th Emmy Awards were announced today. FX/Hulu’s great series adaptation of James Clavell’s epic novel Shōgun received a whopping 25 nominations, making it the most recognized show this year, but The Bear (also FX/Hulu) was not far behind with 23, making it the most nominated series in the comedy category ever. (Whether The Bear is a comedy or not is up for debate, and this is for Season 2, not S3.)

Hulu really ruled the roost this year with Only Murders in the Building placing third with 21 nominations, though despite having the three most-nominated shows, they were second to Netflix in total 2024 nominations (107). Among Netflix’s most-nominated shows were The Crown (18), Ripley (13), and Baby Reindeer (11).

HBO/MAX, who usually lead nominations, was the third most nominated network with 91, including 19 for True Detective: Night Country, and 16 for Hacks.

On the music side, Atticus Ross (and his brother Leopold and Nick Chuba) were nominated for Best Original Score and Outstanding Original Main Title Theme for Shōgun; Girls Against Boys’ Eli Janney and Fred Armisen were nominated for Outstanding Musical Direction for Late Night with Seth Meyers; and actor (and former Meat Joy member) John Hawkes was nominated for Outstanding Original Music And Lyrics for his song that was used in True Detective: Night Country (he was also nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Limited/Anthology series).

Donald Glover‘s series adaptation of spy series Mr. & Mrs. Smith got 16 nominations, including Outstanding Drama series, Lead Actor (Glover) and Lead Actress (Maya Erskine), writing, directed, score and more.

This year’s Outstanding Drama Series nominations are: The Crown, Fallout, The Gilded Age, The Morning Show, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Shōgun, Slow Horses, and 3 Body Problem.

This year’s Outstanding Comedy Series nominations are: Abbott Elementary, The Bear, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Hacks, Only Murders in the Building, Palm Royale, Reservation Dogs, and What We Do in the Shadows.

Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series nominees this year are: Baby Reindeer, Fargo, Lessons in Chemistry, Ripley, and True Detective: Night Country.

The 2024 Emmy Awards will be given out on Sunday, September 15 at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles beginning 8 PM Eastern. See the full list of 2024 Emmy nominations below.
