17 New Songs Out Today

So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.

WHITE REAPER – “I CAN’T ESCAPE MYSELF” (THE SOUND COVER)

The Sound’s 1980 post-punk classic “I Can’t Escape Myself.” Says guitarist Hunter Thompson, “We wanted to put something out and we didn’t have an album yet so we covered a song that we love. We’ve done this before and we’ll probably do it again. The Sound is a really great band and you should check them out if you’re unfamiliar. The sounds we made sound so much like The Sound, you’re gonna have trouble differentiating our sounds from The Sound’s sounds.”

LYYKE LI – “RING OF FIRE” (JOHNNY CASH COVER)

Lykke Li’s first new music since 2022’s EYEYE is a rendition of Johnny Cash’s “Ring of Fire” for the new Netflix film Damsel. “You know I love a cover,” she writes, “and they always come to me in such mysterious ways. I had only really heard the Johnny Cash version and had just given birth so didn’t expect to be singing anything so soon but when they asked I couldn’t say no, I myself felt like I had been thrown into a Ring Of Fire and didn’t really know the way out. Sitting down by that piano again brought me back to myself; or rather the new me. I just love music so much, I live to be a channel. Thank you Andrew Sarlo for your care and attention to detail and for the beautiful players who played on this. I would suggest to blast this really loud in headphones or to dance in slow motion then let me know think.”

Country singer Kaitlin Butts has covered one of Kesha’s country songs, “Hunt You Down.” “The first time I heard ‘Hunt You Down,’ I quickly identified with it,” Kaitlin says. “It’s a love song about making sure that someone is committed to you, but also threatening a little murder too. I think most folks would agree that’s very on-brand for me. As I move into the next chapter of my music, and coming off my more serious previous record, I wanted to make an impact with a song that makes you laugh, have fun, but also comes with a thinly veiled threat.”

Overall, this song originated from the perspective of a non-judgmental girl who makes questionable romantic choices. We can’t help who we love, or even obsess over. So why is there so much judgment surrounding someone’s partner? ‘Obsessed’ plays into the idea that a little obsession doesn’t hurt anyone…. most of the time….”

MILEY CYRUS – “DOCTOR (WORK IT OUT)”

Miley Cyrus and Pharrell Williams unearthed a 2012 track for their new collaborative single. “We just knew it was early,” Williams told Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1. “You just never know. And there’s a moment where you feel like you feel the stickiness in something, but you may feel that the environment is not ready for it.” Miley added, “We just believe so much in timing and in everything happening when it’s supposed to. And around the Grammys, Pharrell and I were talking about putting the song out, and it just felt like it was so serendipitous, and there were so many alignments and so many moments that made me know that now was the perfect time. And then sometimes things in our past make more sense in our present than they ever did then. And so this song, I think the nature, the celebration, the feeling, especially with the video, the joy, the dancing, the letting go, it’s what this song really always needed.”
