Tekashi 6ix9ine to be sued by concert promoters for $5.3million | NME

Tekashi 6ix9ine is set to be sued by two concert promoters for US$5.3million later this month.

Promoters Benhur Tesfalidet and Anton Alexander, the plaintiffs, are accusing 6ix9ine of fraud, breach of contract and defamation.

They allege that in 2018, 6ix9ine cancelled a concert without notice before playing a gig at another venue on the same night. The rapper allegedly pocketed US$58,470 in advance fees ahead of time.

The plaintiffs also allege that 6ix9ine made defamatory comments about them on social media. In response, Complex reports that 6ix9ine claimed Alexander and Tesfalidet did not pay him. He goes on to call them “corrupt” and “scamming”.

Tesfalidet and Alexander originally filed the lawsuit in 2018. However, they withdrew the suit six months later. Other defendants listed in the suit are 6ix9ine’s manager Kifano “Shotti” Jordan, MTA Booking, another booking agent Will Cornish and 6ix9ine’s original manager Christian Ehigiator.

Tekashi 6ix9ine – real name Daniel Hernandez – was released from prison earlier this year. He had been serving time for a range of offences relating to his involvement with a New York street gang.

Despite the ongoing controversy surrounding his career, 6ix9ine continues to put out music. Today (June 12), he will release a joint single with Nicki Minaj, entitled ‘Trollz’.

The pair announced the track earlier in the week, revealing that all proceeds from sales will go towards the Bail Project Inc, a non-profit organisation which helps low-income inmates to make bail.

Earlier this year, another non-profit, No Kid Hungry, rejected 6ix9ine’s $200,000 donation. The charity cited a difference in values as the reason for their rejection. In 2015, 6ix9ine pled guilty to a felony count of use of a child in a sexual performance.

“As a child-focused campaign, it is our policy to decline funding from donors whose activities do not align with our mission and values,” a representative for the charity said in a statement.

Aside from his work with Nicki Minaj, 6ix9ine is also working on a collaboration with Akon. The pair are teaming up on the sequel to Akon’s 2004 track ‘Locked Up’. The exact release date of ‘Locked Up 2’ has not yet been announced.
