Metro Boomin Reacts to ‘Like That’ Topping Billboard Hot 100: ‘Hip Hop Is Alive & Well’

André 3000 once declared that “the South got something to say.” Nearly three decades later, fellow Atlanta natives Future and Metro Boomin are carrying the torch.

The duo’s We Don’t Trust You joint album certainly made a noisy statement with the collab LP debuting atop the Billboard 200 and their nuclear Kendrick Lamar-assisted “Like That” shooting to the top of the Billboard Hot 100.

“HIP HOP IS ALIVE AND WELL #WEDONTTRUSTYOU,” Metro wrote on his social media on Monday (April 1) after learning “Like That” had earned him his first No. 1 hit as a billed artist. (He reached the summit as a co-producer and co-writer on Migos’ “Bad & Boujee” and The Weeknd’s “Heartless”).

Trending on Billboard

Not only did “Like That” top the Hot 100, but Future and Metro’s album filled half of the top 10 and held the No. 2 spot as well with “Type S–t” featuring Travis Scott and Playboi Carti.

Lamar taking aim at his “Big Three” counterparts Drake and J. Cole with his scathing guest appearance likely played a role in the track earning the most single-week streams for any song in 2024 — “Like That” ended up drawing 59.6 million streams and 5.6 million radio airplay audience impressions and sold 9,000 in the week ending March 28, according to Luminate.

The 59.6 million streams are the most for a track in one week since Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers” tallied 59.7 million in its second week (Feb. 4, 2023).

“Like That” also launched to No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200 and Streaming Songs charts. It bowed in at No. 2 on Digital Song Sales.

We Don’t Trust You debuted atop the Billboard 200 with 251,000 total album-equivalent units in the week ending March 28, per Luminate. It’s the biggest sales week for any album thus far in 2024.

“ALL PURELY OFF STREAMS NO PHYSICALS NO BUNDLES JUST GREAT MUSIC AND EMBRACE FROM YOU ALL!! THANK YOU!!!! #WETRUSTYOU #WEDONTTRUSTTHEM,” Metro wrote on X after the project reached No. 1.
