Hootie and the Blowfish Return to the AMAs Stage with Nostalgic Medley

Thirty years after Hootie and the Blowfish took home the award for Favorite Pop/Rock New Artist at the 1996 American Music Awards, the band made a triumphant return to the AMAs stage on Monday night. The performance featured the original lineup responsible for their 1994 breakthrough album, Cracked Rear View: frontman Darius Rucker, guitarist Mark Bryan, bassist Dean Felber, and drummer Jim Sonefeld.

The band delivered a nostalgic medley, opening with their signature hit “Hold My Hand.” Rucker commanded the room with his familiar baritone, effortlessly transitioning into the jangly guitar riffs of “Only Wanna Be With You.” The performance drew enthusiastic reactions from the crowd, with stars like John Legend, Chrissy Teigen, and members of Katseye seen enjoying the set.

Later in the evening, Darius Rucker was honored with the Veterans Voice Award, a recognition sponsored by USAA for artists who advocate for military veterans and their families. Reflecting on the honor, Rucker emphasized the importance of supporting those who serve, noting, “We should be striving to live, to become a community, become a country that we deserve what they sacrifice.”

Following a long hiatus during which Rucker established himself as a successful solo country star, the band reunited in 2019 and has since made sporadic appearances, including a performance at the 2026 Stagecoach festival. While Rucker previously suggested the band would remain inactive for an extended period, their recent high-profile appearances suggest a continued willingness to revisit their legacy for their dedicated fanbase.
