“Flashbang”: A Sonic Explosion of Emotion and Energy from WISEMARY

WISEMARY, the St. Louis-based rock sensation, has again captivated audiences with their latest track, “Flashbang,” from their much-anticipated self-titled album. This song is a masterful blend of heavy and pop elements, showcasing the band’s ability to cross genres seamlessly. Carson Kilo, the lead guitarist, attributes the track’s unique sound to an experimental groove in the verse, particularly the walking bass line, which adds a dynamic, shifting quality to the music.

The single’s inception, as Ryan Litteken (bass guitarist) recalls, was sparked by a piercing intro riff, followed by a heavy jazz-based drum beat that set the tone for the rest of the composition. The synergy between these elements created a foundation for Zach Rehagen’s (WISEMARY’s lead singer) lyrics and melodies, which were crafted to match the song’s energetic feel.

Thematically, “Flashbang” diverges from WISEMARY’s usual literary-influenced style, drawing inspiration from visual media such as film and TV. Rehagen’s lyrics are a metaphorical representation of a tumultuous relationship, likening it to a SWAT raid – intense, disruptive, and chaotic. This vivid imagery is intended to immerse the listener in the emotional turmoil of a dysfunctional relationship, evoking feelings of entrapment and distress.

With their upcoming releases, including an acoustic version of “Won’t Bow Down” and the contemporary rock anthem “Drunk Cigarette,” WISEMARY continues to explore varied themes and sounds. The band is working closely with Grammy nominee Carl Nappa to delve into addiction’s complexities through metaphorical storytelling.
