Kate Middleton Is in Remission From Cancer: ‘I Remain Focused on Recovery’

Kate Middleton is in remission from an undisclosed cancer. The Princess of Wales shared the positive news on Instagram, which comes months after she first let the public know about her diagnosis.

“It is a relief to now be in remission and I remain focused on recovery,” Middleton wrote in a post. Along with the update on her health, she also announced her new role as the Joint Patron of The Royal Marsden. In this role, Middleton hopes to “transform the experience of all those impacted by cancer” by supporting cancer research and patient and family well-being.

The news of Middleton’s initial diagnosis was disclosed to the public in March 2024, following an abdominal surgery in January. In a video statement, Middleton said, “At the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous,” referring to her surgery. “The surgery was successful, however, tests after the operation on cancer had been present,” she added. Middleton also explained her absence from the public eye, which had turned into a social media and tabloid frenzy early last year, was due to recovering from the major surgery.

In the same video, Middleton said she would undergo chemotherapy treatment as a preventative measure following her abdominal surgery. By September 2024, the Princess of Wales revealed that she had completed the treatment. She posted a video on Instagram and YouTube sharing the news.

“The cancer journey is complex, scary, and unpredictable for everyone, especially those closest to you,” Middleton wrote in the caption of the video post. “With humility, it also brings you face to face with your own vulnerabilities in a way you have never considered before, and with that, a new perspective on everything.”

Middleton’s latest health update is a beacon of positivity to the Royal Family, who has also been dealing with the news of King Charles III’s own cancer diagnosis last February. In December, Buckingham Palace announced the King’s treatment was “moving in a positive direction,” but would continue into 2025.

Along with the rest of the Royal Family, Middleton wants to look to the future now that she is in remission. “It takes time to adjust to a new normal. I am however looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead. There is much to look forward to,” she concluded her post.
