Bullet Fired Through Kansas City Chiefs’ Head Coach Andy Reid’s Office — Missing Him by Just 15 Feet
Close Call
The May 2024 incident is currently being investigated as an aggravated assault
In May 2024, Kansas City Chiefs’ head coach Andy Reid was working late when a bullet pierced the window of his office, landing a mere 15 feet away from him. Though the incident was kept under wraps for over a year, the shooting is currently being investigated as an aggravated assault, according to local police.
The Kansas City Star reports that Reid was working from the team’s practice facility late on May 4, 2024, when the bullet was fired at 12:15 a.m. from outside and pierced the window in his office. It landed inside a wall between the bathroom and his office door. Two more shots were fired, one landing in an air conditioning unit and another hitting the floor above Reid’s office.
“When officers arrived they were told by overnight security that someone in the building alerted them to hearing a noise and observed what appeared to be a bullet hole in a window,” a spokesperson for the police department said in a statement to People. There were no injuries, but because there were people inside the building, it is being investigated as aggravated assault.
According to the Kansas City Police Department, no arrests have been made, and no signs point to this being a targeted incident at any person or organization. A source close to the situation told USA Today that the shooting is believed to be “random.”
Still, the building has taken additional security measures in the year since. Bulletproof windows have been installed in Reid’s office. The investigation remains ongoing.
