Throwback of The Month – Scooter vs. Marc Acardipane & Dick Rules – Maria (I Like It Loud)
Last few months has presented us the opportunity to touch on multiple genres that once were rampant in the 90s, and especially in the 2000s era. For this month, I decided not to touch upon any House or Trance gem, but rather an underrated style that output many iconic songs consistently: Hardstyle/Hard Techno.
If you are familiar to Electronic music, perhaps this will ring a bell unless for a newcomer. This type of music draws parallels to the recent remake done by Tiesto and John Christian. Introduction out-of-the-way, let me acquaint you to the artists involved. Scooter are a veteran German trio, who surprisingly, still continue being relevant in the scene to this day, unlike many other contemporaries from their earlier days. They have collaborated with Timmy Trumpet and you-know-who Belgian duo. Marc Acardipane, however, is a German Producer known for his multiple aliases (Marshall Masters being one of them), and the last contributor Dick Rules, is an erstwhile vocalist.
This song has multiple clones of it, so bear with me. Marshall Masters and The Ultimate MC released the original version of “I Like It Loud” back in ‘97 (special recommendation: the official Angerfist remix). Then, he and Dick Rules adapted the melody into a more rap-oriented delivery, preserving the hook nonetheless. After that, Scooter signed into a deal for production with the mentioned party, and turned this prototype into the global hit we now know of, adding new lyrics in the process and turning this song into the unforgettable “Maria version”.
While the said rendition remains the most heard, the most memorable version is still the original one. The vocal sample adapted by Tiesto and John Christian remake is taken directly from there. That being said, “I Like It Loud” stands as one of the most iconic Dance record in the Hard Techno genre, having gone through multiple modern revisions, still making people dance throughout the world.
