Panda Eyes & Gabriel Guardian – I’ll Never Be
81%%Overall Score
• The comeback of the classic Panda Eyes style…
• …With updates on it.
• Repeat-worthy track
After what seemed an entire year, we have the opportunity to listen to “Journey Pt.II”, the anticipated sequel to Swiss musician Panda Eyes’ first part. I decided to review one of them randomly, however you have my word that the second part is exceptional to listen. The winner among those was a collaboration with his friend Gabriel Guardian, who has teamed up several times in the past with the said creator.
A short introduction done, let’s forward ourselves onto the review. I remember the gaming-esque style the Zurich based producer brandished during his tenure at Disciple, with notable projects like “The Lost Levels”. This is not Dubstep but Future Bass with the same style one can find in collaborations like “Think Different” or “Who I Am”. I missed a lot of the older signature, hence my excitement upon hearing today’s song.
The piano riff comes in an 8-bit twist and fits like glove on a hand. Another thing worth mentioning is the switch between the Future Bass style and a heavier Dubstep segment, that is incredibly well-made may I add, alongside inspiration from Rock genre! The vocal chops are perfect and the melody it plays being used as the entrée to the second part, with a gaming-type build-up. Not to forget Gabriel’s guitar presence here, a charming addition!
In amidst of all this, the only negative pointer I could make is the repetition that comes from the second drop, with use of the same structure as the former one, featuring an astonishing solo from the US-based guitarist. Call it a magic touch on this tune if you will.
“I’ll Never Be” is a step away from the traditional format that usually comes in the spoken genres, and a unique experience for the fans. The synergy also significantly bettered the outcome, making it enjoyable and totally worth a listen. As I said before, you’ll definitely not regret listening this one!
