Mick Jones on Foreigner’s Long-Awaited Rock Hall Induction: “We Are Proud”

Foreigner are finally heading into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, after being eligible for induction for more than 20 years. The legendary rock act was announced on Sunday night (April 21st) as part of the institution’s Class of 2024 alongside Ozzy Osbourne, Cher, and more.

While truly deserving, Foreigner may have been helped out by a Mark Ronson-led campaign (see below) featuring Dave Grohl, Josh Homme, Slash, Chad Smith, and Jack Black calling for the hit-making classic rock band to be inducted this year.

Guitarist Mick Jones acknowledged the honor with a statement listing the band’s fellow classic members Lou Gramm, Dennis Elliot, Al Greenwood, Rick Wills, the late Ed Gagliardi, and the late Ian McDonald. He also mentioned a “new era of inclusivity” of the Rock Hall that finally allowed Foreigner to be inducted.

“I was thrilled to learn of Foreigner’s nomination, and this confirmation of our coming membership in the home of my peers is a priceless highlight of my career,” said Jones. “October 19th will be an emotional day for me, Lou, Al, Dennis, and Rick, and a very special moment for the families of Ian and Ed.”

He added. “The leadership of Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Chairman, John Sykes, and Nominating Committee Chairman, Rick Krim, has brought a new era of inclusivity and relevance that reflects all that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame should be, and we are proud to become a part of it. Long may it continue.”

Jones is the only classic member who is still in Foreigner, although he recently revealed that a battle with Parkinson’s disease has largely kept him off the stage. Meanwhile, Gramm, who performs with his solo band, announced recently that he will retire from touring at the end of this year.

Foreigner’s ongoing farewell tour will continue with a co-headlining North American outing with Styx that kicks off June 11th in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Pick up tickets here.

Foreigner manager Phil Carson mentioned that the band will add some special shows to its itinerary following the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame announcement: “Foreigner will shortly announce a pause in our Farewell Tour in order to play some additional shows as a thank you for the hundreds of thousands of fan votes. Original members, who will soon be Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees, often appear with the band and that’s always a welcome experience.”

This year’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will air live October 19th from Cleveland on Disney+, and will be available to stream on Hulu beginning the next day.
