Tom Morello Announces Power to the People Festival with Bruce Springsteen
Tom Morello is set to channel his legendary activist spirit into a new, all-star event. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee officially unveiled the Power to the People Festival today (May 28), a one-day gathering designed as a non-partisan celebration of peace, justice, solidarity, music, and community action.
The festival is scheduled to take place on Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, MD. The star-studded lineup includes Bruce Springsteen, Foo Fighters, Dave Matthews, Joan Baez, Brittany Howard, Dropkick Murphys, Serj Tankian, Cypress Hill, Killer Mike, grandson, Taylor Momsen, Matt Cameron, The Linda Lindas, and a special DJ set by Shepard Fairey. Jack Black is also slated to perform, joined by Roman Morello, Revel Ian, Yoyoka Soma, and Hugo Weiss.
“The Power To The People festival is about freedom, justice, equality and rock and roll,” says Tom Morello, who is curating the event. “It’s about the power everyday human beings have when they come together through music, art, community, and action. We’re honored to bring this incredible lineup to the DC area for a day that celebrates the spirit of activism, creativity, and hope.”
Beyond the main stage performances, the festival will feature the “Freedom Village,” an immersive space where attendees can engage with nonprofit organizations, advocacy groups, and community partners. This area will highlight opportunities for grassroots organizing, mutual aid, and civic engagement.
A portion of proceeds from all ticket sales, along with 100% of the net proceeds from VIP tickets, will be donated to VoteRiders and HeadCount. Representatives from these organizations will be on-site to assist concertgoers with voter registration and provide information on upcoming elections.
Morello, who is currently on tour with Bruce Springsteen, announced the festival on-stage at Nationals Park on Wednesday night, May 27. The timing of the event is particularly significant, as it arrives just one month before the Nov. 3 midterm elections.
Pre-sales for the festival begin this Friday, May 29, at 10 a.m. ET, with the general on-sale following on Saturday, May 30, at 10 a.m. ET. For more information, visit powertothepeoplefest.com.
