Throbbing Gristle releasing ‘TG Berlin’ box set: hear previously unreleased “Scabs & Saws”

Post-punk and industrial icons Throbbing Gristle have announced TG Berlin, a box set featuring their previously unreleased work in Berlin around a very special series of live events at the Volksbühne in 2005/2006. It’s out December 6 via Mute.

As you may recall, Chris Carter, Cosey Fanni Tutti, Genesis Breyer P-Orridge (1950-2020) and Peter ‘Sleazy’ Christopherson (1955-2010) reformed Throbbing Gristle in 2004, some 23 years after breaking up. They stayed together through the end of the decade, played Coachella and Primavera Sound and released two new albums, TG Now (2004), and Part Two: The Endless Not (2007). The Volksbühne residency included a New Year’s Eve show, an improvised live soundtrack to Derek Jarman’s In The Shadow of the Sun (1981) on New Year’s Day, and they also went into the studio, recording two final songs, “Scabs & Saws” and “Wotwududo,” and a 48-minute piece of new music. The box set includes 4 CDs, a Blu Ray, a 10” vinyl record and a photo book featuring unseen photographs from the time. You can listen to “Scabs & Saws,” an intense piece combining dub production, heavy electronics with a typically uncompromising vocal performance by P-Orridge, below.
