Chicago artist The Twilite Tone announces debut album for Stones Throw
Positioning the 14-track full-length as Anthony Khan’s solo debut LP belies his decades of experience as a key Chicago producer. He began working with Common in the ’80s and co-produced much of his debut LP, Can i Borrow A Dollar. Other Twilite Tone credits include the Gorillaz’s Humanz, Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music hit “Mercy” and John Legend’s Love In The Future, which racked up three Grammy nominations.
Khan refers to his solo work a “transgenre”—a combination of house, electronic funk and instrumental hip-hop. “The evolution of the Chicago dance music scene, as well as the evolution of underground hip-hop here, that pushed me to seek, find and ultimately create the perfect beats, rhymes, style and life around who I am authentically,” says Khan. The album, which follows an assortment of singles and tracks released on labels like UNO and Grimy Trax, was crafted on a studio setup centering on the Akai MPC. The only other gear Tone used for The Clearing was a Korg Triton Workstation and a “secret Moog-like module.”
