UK rap duo Rizzle Kicks announce “the second biggest comeback this week,” share first new song in 8 years
Brighton, UK rap duo Rizzle Kicks may not have picked the best week to announce they’re back, but they have good humor about it. The group, who had a string of UK hits — including “Down with the Trumpets,” “Mama Do the Hump,” and “Lost Generation” — in the early 2010s declared on Monday “SECOND BIGGEST COMEBACK THIS WEEK.” They also shared a video announcing their return that is hilarious even if you’ve never heard of them before. You can watch that below.
“Javelin” is Rizzle Kicks first new music in eight years and finds their breezy style, indebted to the late-’80s Native Tongues scene that gave us De La Soul and A Tribe Called Quest, still in fine form. “To be completely honest, we’ve been blown away by all of your support and excitement over the past few weeks and it’s made us so happy seeing how many of you guys have stuck around throughout the years,” Rizzle Kicks say. “From the moment we made this one together in the studio there was just something about it that made sense for it to be the first song we dropped, and we can’t believe it’s finally yours.” They add, “This is only just the beginning of what’s still to come.”
