Stream the Elliott Smith tribute show ft. Grandaddy mems, Kevin Devine, Illuminati Hotties, more
Today (8/6) would’ve been Elliott Smith‘s 55th birthday, and as mentioned, a bunch of musicians, including some members of the touring band for his 2000 album Figure 8, will play a tribute show to celebrate. “All My Rowdy Friends,” a benefit for New Monkey Studio in Van Nuys, CA, happens tonight at The Regent Theater, and the lineup includes Jason Lytle and Jim Fairchild of Grandaddy, Ben Bridwell of Band of Horses, Illuminati Hotties, Cheekface, Aaron Lee Tasjan, Kevin Devine, Johanna Samuels, Earlimart, Emily Kinney, mehro, Madison Cunningham, Violet Grohl, and more. It’s streaming live starting at 10:30 PM ET (last minute tickets are also still available).
“The goal of this concert is to protect the future of the studio for generations of artists to continue to enjoy a creative space that was crafted by one of the most deeply adored and respected musicians,” Chief House Engineer Greg Cortez says.
“People should be able to use the real hardware and experience the studio process while it still exists in this form,” Joel Graves, co-caretaker of New Monkey Studio, adds.
Studio manager Robert Cappadona says, “This night is not only a celebration of Elliott’s music but also a critical step towards preserving a sonic sanctuary that has become a historical landmark in the music community.”
