Stephen Malkmus’ new band with Matt Sweeney, Jim White & Emmett Kelly are called The Hard Quartet
After teasing a new project last week, Stephen Malkmus, Matt Sweeney, Jim White and Emmett Kelly are back with more teasing about it, but now confirm it’s a thing with an official name: The Hard Quartet. All four members posted the same band name/logo on their social media accounts this afternoon, and The Hard Quartet have an official Instagram account now.
You may recall that last week’s teases mentioned “a hard band is good to find” and “a hard band name is good to find,” so this is in line with a slow promo rollout. When will we learn more? Probably sooner than later. Stay tuned.
It’s been four years since Malkmus’ last album, Traditional Techniques (which featured Sweeney) but he’s been pretty busy with Pavement. Jim White, meanwhile, has about 37 irons in the fire, including the first new Dirty Three album in 12 years. Emmett Kelly has stayed occupied lately with Ty Segall.
