25 New Songs Out Today
So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
THIS IS THE KIT – “SENSATIONS IN THE DARK” (GRUFF RHYS COVER)
This is the Kit have shared their cover of “Sensations in the Dark” by Gruff Rhys (who produced TITK’s 2023 album and toured with them). Says Kate Stables: “We were about to do a joint tour in the States, and a friend who cuts records suggested we do a split single, each of us playing a song by the other person. This is the song I chose from Gruff’s overwhelmingly excellent repertoire. I love the lyrics and the horn line and how difficult it was for me to play as I’m really bad at changing chords quickly. In the end I cheated and played the riff on one string. With this song, I really enjoyed indulging in things I love messing about with, like recorders and rhythms and holding the “fill’ button down on the Casio keyboard beat that I was using for the whole duration of the song. The lyrics are so excellent and the melodies in the song are just a flipping pleasure to sing. It was very fun to make and I’m very grateful to our friend Mike for suggesting the project and especially to Gruff for lending me the song to play.”

AMERICAN ANALOG SET – “WHAT ARE WE GOING TO TELL THIS GUY”
Numero Group’s American Analog Set box set contains two discs worth of rare and unreleased songs, and they’ve just shared one of those, pretty and acoustic instrumental “What Are We Going to Tell This Guy?”

MUI ZYU – “EVERYTHING TO DIE FOR”
Following her 2023 album Rotten Bun for an Eggless Century, mui zyu has shared her first new single of the year, “everything to die for.” “This song arrived so fast,” she says, “like a gift from somewhere else, the words and music poured out altogether and the final version is musically identical to the original sketch. I’d never written a love song and had been listening to lots of romantic music and this just teleported in. I love chromatic melodies as they are hopeful and naive but can feel unnerving, all of which embody ideas of love to me.”

ANNA PRIOR (METRONOMY) – “TECH NÃO”
Metronomy drummer Anna Prior is back with a new solo single. “On the surface, it’s about losing friends in the crowds, helplessness and vulnerability but underneath,” she says. “it’s about when the energy in the room starts to turn towards the unfamiliar and you’re not sure if what you just saw was real and when the euphoric highs aren’t all they’re cracked up to be. But this song has a happy ending, which I didn’t end up writing lyrics for directly, but I feel it when I hear it; it’s about the relief of being found and saved by friendly strangers and beloved old friends.” The video was directed by The Horrors’ Tom Furse.

FAYE WEBSTER – “FEELING GOOD TODAY”
The latest single from Faye Webster’s new album Underdressed at the Symphony is the vocoder-laden “Feeling Good Today,” which is accompanied by a video starring 76-year-old TikTok star Lili Hayes.

BEN QUAD – “IN LOVING MEMORY” (ARM’S LENGTH COVER)
Wax Bodega labelmates Arm’s Length, Carly Cosgrove, and Ben Quad are going on tour together this year (with non-WB band Saturdays At Your Place) and they’re covering each other for a split that will only be available in physical form at the shows. The first song released from the split is Ben Quad’s take on Arm’s Length’s “In Loving Memory.”

PLANET ON A CHAIN – “COCALERO”
Planet on a Chain (fronted by Dave Ackerman of Tear It Up and Dead Nation) will release Culture of Death on April 5 via Revelation, and new single “Cocalero” is a no-frills, fast hardcore punk song. Dave says, “I wrote this song after reading a book about the illegal gold trade in South America and the parallels to the cocaine trade. The coca leaf farmers live in poverty. They are under the thumb of the cocaine traffickers to grow the most they can, but also frequently the target of enforcement efforts. They receive the risks of the drug trade without the rewards.”

SWEAT – “GIVE ME ACTION”
Sweat (ex-Graf Orlock) will release Love Child on March 15 via Vitriol Records, and here’s rippin’ lead single “Give Me Action.”

KAI MARK (JOSHUA FIT FOR BATTLE) – “MY SWEET BIRD”
Bryan Louie of Delaware screamo veterans Joshua Fit For Battle has a new acoustic singer/songwriter song as Kai Mark.

BOUNDARIES – “EASILY ERASED”
Connecticut metalcore band Boundaries have announced a new album, Death Is Little More, due March 29 via 3DOT Recordings. It was produced, mixed, and mastered by past collaborator Randy LeBoeuf, and lead single “Easily Erased” finds them bouncing between discordant, abrasive verses and polished pop hooks.

BELMONT – “LIMINAL”
Chicago pop punks Belmont have announced a new album, Liminal, due April 12 via Pure Noise, and the just-released title track finds them in very glossy, pop-centric territory.

TOTALLY SLOW – “FUTURE BURNS”
North Carolina’s Totally Slow return with an under-two-minute skate punk ripper.

SUNDAY CRUISE – “PRETTY GIRL”
Pretty Girl will release The Art Of Losing My Reflection on March 15 via Lauren Records, and new single “Pretty Girl” fuses dreamy indie pop and punky grunge.

SO TOTALLY – “DISTINCT STAR”
Philly’s So Totally will release Double Your Relaxation on May 10 via Tiny Engines, and “Distinct Star” is an appealing dose of ’90s-style shoegaze.

DOMAIN – “CORRODE” (ft. TOM SHEEHAN of INDECISION)
Florida metalcore band Domain will release their debut LP Life’s Cold Grasp on March 8 via DAZE, and this new single features Tom Sheehan of Indecision.

French metallic hardcore band Worst Doubt will release the Immortal Pain EP on March 1 via DAZE, and here’s the raw, heavy “Immortal Pain.”

NAHREALLY & THE EXPERT – “BREAKING DOWN IN REEAL TIME” (ft. OPEN MIKE EAGLE)
Rapper NAHreally and producer The Expert are releasing BLIP on March 29 via Rucksack Records. It includes songs featuring Hemlock Ernst (aka Future Islands’ Samuel T. Herring), Jesse the Tree, Dillon, and Open Mike Eagle, the last of whom is on this new single.
