Corridor announce new album ‘Mimi,’ share “Mourir Demain”

Montreal band Corridor have announced their fourth album, Mimi, which will be out April 26 via Sub Pop. The band co-produced the album with Joojoo Ashworth (Dummy, Automatic) at Studio Gamma in Montreal, and Heba Kadry mastered it. If you were wondering, the album is named from singer/guitarist Jonathan Robert’s cat.

It’s been over four years since Corridor’s Junior, and this one finds them pushing beyond their signature, intricate sound they honed across their first three albums. “The goal was to work differently, which is the goal we have every time we work on a new album—to build something in a new way,” Jonathan says. “This time, we took our time.”

“For a long time, we identified as a guitar-oriented band, and the goal of making this whole record was trying to get away from that,” says vocalist/bassist Dominic Berthiaume. “We had to figure out how to make new songs without having the chance to play together. It was complicated sometimes.”

The first single from Mimi is “Mourir Demain,” which with it’s prominent acoustic guitars sounds unlike anything Corridor have ever released before. “I wrote it when my girlfriend and I were shopping for life insurance,” Jonathan says. “With our little daughter growing up, we also considered making our will. I said to myself, ‘Oh shit, from now on I’m slowly starting to plan my death.’” You can watch the video below.

Corridor will be below the Canadian border in March for festival appearances at Pitchfork Mexico City and SXSW, and will play Los Angeles as well. In May, they’re on the lineup of the 2024 Schellraiser festival in Nevada. A full tour is still to be announced, and all current dates are listed below.
