12 New Songs Out This Week
So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. While we usually do a daily roundup of all the new songs, the week before Christmas is pretty slow so here are all of this week’s songs in one place.
ANIMAL COLLECTIVE – “DEFEAT” (MOOR MOTHER REMIX)
Moor Mother has gotten her hands on Animal Collective’s single “Defeat” to remix. For those who didn’t need all 22 minutes of the original, Moor Mother turns it into just under four minutes.

CHARLOTTE ADIGÉRY & BOLIS PUPUL – “HOHO”
Charlotte Adigéry & Bolis Pupul have reworked “HAHA,” one of the most memorable songs on their great 2022 debut, into a holiday song. If you know the song — and if you’re heard it once you haven’t forgotten it — the move here was obvious, and it works.

BAD MOVES – “NEW YEAR’S REPRIEVE”
To quote the band’s own Bandcamp, “There are too few pessimistic holiday songs generally, and even fewer pessimistic New Year’s Eve songs specifically. ‘New Year’s Reprieve’ is Bad Moves’ contribution towards filling that shortage.”

KNIFEPLAY – “A LONG DECEMBER” (COUNTING CROWS COVER)
“The holidays can be such a specifically emotional time and I’m grateful to have this outlet as a space to explore that,” Knifeplay’s Tj Strohmer says of their acoustic take on the Counting Crows hit.

SHYGIRL – “f@k€” (ft. KINGDOM)

Black Angels’ Alex Maas has shared a new holiday song, saying, “I’ve never written a Christmas song. Christmas has a very dark side that not many people take into account. The holidays are as painful as they are beautiful for most people. This song is for people who fall in love during Christmas and for those who want to escape completely from the holiday.”
