Lafawndah reveals new album, The Fifth Season, on Latency

Lafawndah is releasing her next LP this September on Latency.

Her third album, The Fifth Season, is inspired by the myths in the Broken Earth trilogy by NK Jemisin. In addition to collaborators such as tuba player Theon Cross, Nathaniel Cross on trombone, percussionist Valentina Magaletti and keyboardist Nick Weiss, rapper Lala &ce features on LP closer “Le Malentendu.” The second track, “Don’t Despair,” reinterprets Beverly Glenn-Copeland‘s song of the same name, while the opening piece pulls from acid-impressionist composer Lili Boulanger’s “Old Buddhist Prayer.”

The Fifth Season, out September 8th via the French label, follows her 2019 debut album, Ancestor Boy and its companion LP of collaborative reworks, Ancestor Boy II.
