Seth Troxler and Seven Davis Jr. remix Brandon Lucas's house track featuring Dr. Cornel West

A remix EP for Brandon Lucas’s “Got That Hope,” with versions from Seth Troxler and Seven Davis Jr., is out now.

“Got That Hope,” which features a monologue from author and activist Dr. Cornel West, launched Los Angeles artist Brandon Lucas’s new imprint, Purple Label Sound, back in September.

The label seeks to “re-center house music on its Black traditions,” and now “Got That Hope” is being re-released in a remix package. Troxler’s nine-minute remix also features poetry from Detroit performance artist Salakastar.

The label says that an “extended body of work” made with Cornel West is due next year. Lucas’s relationship with house music is connected to Dr. West—he discovered the genre while working as West’s social media manager.
