Record Store Day 2020 expands to three 'drops' later this year

Record Store Day has reformatted due to the widespread shop closures as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Record Store Day 2020 was originally set to go down on April 18th. It had been moved to June 20th, but it will now be spread across three Saturdays—August 29th, September 26th and October 24th. Rather than emphasizing in-store events, which draw droves of customers out to stores for exclusive releases, the new dates will focus on “drops” as opposed to in-person events.

“No one knows what kind of party we’ll all be in the mood for, or able to hold safely, at any time this year, in any part of the world,” Record Store Day stated on Instagram. “So we’re focusing this year not on the party aspect of Record Store Day, but on getting the great releases on the RSD 2020 List into your local record store, and then into your collection.”

Previously listed RSD releases this year included reissues of Robyn’s self-titled 2005 album, Nocturnal Emissions’ 1981 LP Tissue Of Lies and Air’s Virgin Suicides soundtrack. Soul Jazz had also lined up a number of Studio One reggae compilations.

An updated list of “RSD Drops” will hit the Record Store Day website on June 1st. Check out the existing list here.

RECORD STORE DAY IS SOCIAL DISTANCING! 😀 2020 is different. So what we’re doing this year is going to be different too. No one knows what kind of party we’ll all be in the mood for, or able to hold safely, at any time this year, in any part of the world. So we’re focusing this year not on the party aspect of Record Store Day, but on getting the great releases on the RSD 2020 List into your local record store, and then into your collection. RSD DROPS! Three street dates when titles from The List will be available only at participating indie record stores. We’re working on getting the new version of The List — with new RSD Drops dates — all nice and pretty for you. Look for that on the Record Store Day site on June 1. #RSDDrops #RSD2020 #RSD20 #recordstoreday #ShopIndie ##socialdistancing #2020iswack #recordstores #recordstoresarecool #loverecordstores
