Arts Council England reveals next round of culture recovery grants

Arts Council England has revealed the next round of culture recovery grants.

Following last week’s announcement, another 589 organisations have been awarded grants of under £1 million to help them survive the next six months. Once again, the bulk of the money went to London-based organisations, with 199 recipients sharing just north of £27 million. The total amount awarded this round was £76,654,621.

The successful applicants include numerous organisations involved in electronic music, from London’s NTS Radio, Boiler Room, The Jazz Cafe and Rye Wax, to Liverpool’s Camp & Furnace, Salford’s The White Hotel and Leeds’ Cocoon In The Park, Mint Festival and MAP Charity.

Not everyone was successful. Several established clubs, venues and promoters in electronic music, including Printworks, Studio 338, Depot Mayfield and The Pickle Factory, didn’t receive funding. “We are keen, alongside hundreds of unsuccessful businesses, to understand the criteria with which some of these decisions have been made,” said Michael Kill, CEO of the Night Time Industries Association. “And gain an understanding of when and if there will be further support for the sector through cultural funding, as we are losing important businesses and people every day.”

This round’s largest grant—£1 million—went to Darlington Hippodrome, a performing arts theatre opened in 1907. Click here for the full list so far.

Resident Advisor was one of the organisations that received a grant in the previous round. The final round of grants for organisations, worth between £1 and £3 million, will be announced soon.
