In a recent interview with the Chicago Tribune, Perry Farrell opened up about the history Lollapalooza and the impact his creation has made in the past 25 years.
While touching on the past, Farrell also took a moment to discuss his future goals. He mentioned that he will be moving on from Lollapalooza to start a new project his own described as a “completely new experience”. Set to launch in just 18 short months, Farrell describes his vision a festival with house music vibes only.
Farrell explains that this concept was born out his own disdain for the new wave EDM music. In the interview he explained, “I hate EDM. I want to vomit it out my nostrils. I can't stand what it did to what I love, which is house music, which was meditative, psychedelic — it took you on a journey. … I sometimes cringe at my own festival." Though he understands the role EDM at festivals like Lollapalooza, he dreams something more and has plans to make it happen very soon. This festival will not be a general audience pleaser, but a utopia for all things house music.
What do you think? Is Perry being too harsh? Or is it time to get back to the roots dance music culture?
