Killer Mike and El-P have been sharing previews of the next Run The Jewels record for a while now, with El-P previously hinting that it could be out before the end of 2016. Back in March, El tweeted, “Pleased to report #RTJ3 is halfway done, the goal of a 2016 release is achievable and a safer, more profitable global economy in our grasp.” Speaking with HipHopWired.com, Killer Mike has reiterated and doubled down on El’s comments, telling the site that the album could be wrapped up by next month.
“You know what we’re doing, we’re going zany,” he told the site. “I’m just smoking weed, eating ‘shrooms, watching Big Trouble In Little China everyday. We’re going dark. I think we have some stuff that will touch your soul.” He says that the album will be “darker, harder, meaner, angrier” than Run The Jewels 2, which came out back in 2014. Run The Jewels 2 featured a big guest star in the form of Rage Against the Machine’s Zach de la Rocha, and Mike promises that Run The Jewels 3 will feature another comparable “big” star providing guest vocals.
Like the previous albums, he also explains that the album won’t be too lengthy. “People got shit to do, so they want to get to it.” Expect to hear more from the highly anticipated album in the coming months.
