Today, Dec. 12, D.C. rapper Shy Glizzy celebrates his 24th birthday.
Marquis King was born and raised in the Washington, D.C. area and got into music from a young age. Influenced by go-go, Glizzy began dropping music in early 2011. His 2012 tape Law got him noticed on a national scale. But it wasn’t until his 2014 mixtapes Young Jefe and the DJ Drama-hosted Law 3 that the Glizzy Gang member gained real attention. In 2015, Glizzy earned his spot on the 2015 XXL Freshmen roster alongside Fetty Wap, K Camp, DeJ Loaf and more.
Best known for tracks that balance between moods joyful and downcast, Glizzy’s flow and delivery are something unique to the rap game these day. Two Glizzy’s most popular songs to date, “Awwsome,” a straight foward celebration self, and “Funeral,” a lighthearted reflection on who he wants to see celebrating his life when he dies, are prime examples this.
Glizzy has worked with Young Thug, PeeWee Longway, Plies, Trinidad James, Metro Boomin and more. He dropped his most recent project, Young Jefe 2, in July this year and received a warm reception, garnering plenty co-signs and entering the Billboard Heatseekers Chart.
